Individual Living Options

What is Individualized Living Options (ILO)

Individualized Living Options (ILO) are like customizable support plans specially designed for you and your unique needs within the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). With an ILO funding, you have the power to make decisions about where and how you want to live, as well as the specific types of help you require in your daily life.

With ILO funding, you become the captain of your ship, deciding where and how you want to dock in life's harbors. You can even choose the specific navigation aids you need for your daily voyage.

Our Safe Passage ILO services are your trusty navigational charts, dedicated to helping you chart a course that leads to a strong sense of belonging and greater independence. We're like expert sailors who adjust the sails to match your preferences and chart a course aligned with your personal goals. Our mission is to ensure that individuals with disabilities have the wind in their sails as they navigate toward a fulfilling life in a way that suits them best.

Is ILO right for me?

While ILO arrangements are determined on case-by-case basis, it’s worth exploring if:

  • you’re 18 or over
  • you require at least 6 hours of daily help at home
  • you don’t need daily registered nursing care or frequent support overnight
  • you’re ready to explore alternative options for your home and living needs.

If you think ILO might not be the right fit for you, contact us to explore other NDIS Plan options.

Who can I live with?

With Individualized Living Options (ILO), you have the freedom to decide who you want to live with. There are plenty of options to choose from, and here are just a few:

  1. Housemates: You can share a home with friends or other housemates who will take care of you, offer assistance when needed, and provide companionship. Your roommates might even receive financial support or have their rent covered.
  2. Mentors: If you prefer, you can live in a place where a small group of paid mentors is available to assist you. These mentors can help you directly and indirectly, offering guidance and support as required.
  3. Live Alone: Maybe you'd rather live on your own or with others and receive help from your family, friends, and occasional drop-in assistance.

No matter who you choose to live with, it's an opportunity to get to know your neighbors and build strong bonds with the people around you. ILO is all about giving you the flexibility to create a living arrangement that suits your preferences and needs.

Process Of Getting ILO Supports In Your Plan

To begin your journey with Individualized Living Options (ILO), it's important to connect with your local area coordinator (LAC) or planner. They are your go-to people for discussing the housing and living options that best suit your desires and needs.

Here's how it works:

  1. Talk to Your LAC: Reach out to your local area coordinator (LAC) or planner to express your preferences for housing and living arrangements. Share your thoughts, dreams, and goals with them.
  2. Provide Information: Your LAC will gather some essential information from you, especially if you're interested in exploring homes and places to live. This information helps us understand your unique needs and preferences.
  3. NDIA Assessment: After collecting the necessary details, the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) will review your request. If your request aligns with the NDIS funding criteria, we'll determine the level of support you require to explore and design your Individualized Living Options (ILO) package.

Remember, your LAC and the NDIA are here to support you on this journey and make sure your living arrangements match your goals and aspirations. Don't hesitate to reach out and start the conversation about your housing and living choices.
